The saying “any port in a storm” relates to seeking comfort when trouble begins – when the seas start to pitch, finding a safe harbour is important to survival. Instead of running for the safety of dry land or the docks when a storm hits, what if you could find smooth seas through better planning?

The internal audit and risk management profession are often seen as the ‘finders of problems’, documenting ‘process failures’, and highlighting ‘unmanaged risks’. When this happens, management seeks out the safety of the shore, defending their progress, because the internal audit and risk management professionals haven’t communicated effectively.

Internal auditors and risk managers need to work with management to educate them on their purpose and role, helping the organisation in navigating to safer waters, rather than see them ducking for cover.

The core skill of auditing is to listen – the profession name comes from the Latin derivative of ‘audire’ or ‘to hear’. Just as important is to communicate clearly that observations and findings identified during an audit are opportunities and not problems.

We are passionate about improving our industry’s capability in audit and risk management communication. This is why Anchoram believes in helping train and develop the best auditors in the Asia Pacific, collaborating with the ARC Institute to develop the Internal Audit Grand Slam Tournament – providing internal auditors with the opportunity to gain 30 CPE/CPD hours of training at an affordable price.

At Anchoram our consultants are ready to listen. Our goal is to hear what is happening in your business, to help navigate your governance, processes and projects towards success, working with you to achieve your goals. We can assist you through general compliance and process audits to find efficiencies and improve effectiveness, or use our project, programme and portfolio skills to work with you at the micro and macro levels of your business in information technology, procurement and probity and quality.

Of course, we can also help when seas get rough and you need assistance in fraud investigations, program health checks and business continuity support, and we will work with you to sail you back to smooth seas.

Internal Audit and Risk Management processes are significantly improved through productive communication and effective listening.
