In a world that thrives on constant connectivity and information overload, finding the delicate equilibrium between productivity and well-being has become more critical than ever.

I awoke early one morning at 5 am with this sentiment, seized by the realisation of an unfinished task. It is said that we consume around 74GB of information daily, and unfortunately, we cannot add any more RAM to our brains. As the digital age continually bombards us with data, tasks, and responsibilities, there emerges a pressing need to defragment our minds, restore order, and establish a semblance of control over our lives.

I believe we ideally need a work-life balance in how we live our modern lives, and yet we are bombarded daily and at all hours to get things done. From my personal experiences as a former SES officer, I used to work with the expectation to expend countless hours, often without any recognition, overtime, or the ability to work from home. And I did it at what cost? What was I thinking?

As I age (gracefully I hope), I question how we as a society are changing and managing the shift to work from home. Balancing all the competing aspects of our lives and feeling that everything our devices throw at us must be dealt with immediately.

My view is that we must start to look at our life patterns and take control of the myriad of distractions hitting us from every direction.

Anchoram was built on doing things differently, and whilst I might have a view of Nirvana, I believe we do try to achieve the notion that our people are our most important asset. We should have a mantra that says, “I will balance my professional and personal life with a surge capacity as necessary”.

The capacity to work, rest, and enjoy life will make us more productive, and collaborative, and avoid one of the two ‘B’s intruding into our daily lives: I am too busy or I am burnt-out.
